David is a guest conductor for La Scala Ballet, including Manon, Don Quixote, Nureyev and Fracci galas, Academy evenings and the 2023 Ballet School La fille mal gardée. The 2025 Paquita run captured on this site credits Paul Connelly as conductor.
David was a guest conductor with the Paris Opera Ballet from 1989/90 to 2003/04. In 2001 he prepared a new Paquita score after Deldevez and Minkus for Pierre Lacotte’s Palais Garnier creation, and conducted that run and the 2003 DVD recording.
David conducted the Nureyev Gala in 2003 and an end-of-season gala in 2005 at this house. He returns in 2026 for Living Legacies, listed on this site, and for Ballet Gala.
David has conducted Giselle at Erkel Theatre, then Swan Lake, The Pygmalion Effect, Onegin, Coppélia, The Sleeping Beauty and Dancing Percussion at this house. Kaleidoscope was recorded with the Hungarian State Opera brass ensemble, to whom it is dedicated.
David arranged scores for Semperoper Ballett, including the Watkin Sleeping Beauty and Dawson Giselle. He conducted the 2009 premiere of Watkin’s Swan Lake with Staatskapelle Dresden.
David conducted ballet at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma from the late 1990s, including Don Quixote, Giselle, the 2009 Ballets Russes centenary, Romeo and Juliet, Carmina Burana and The Nutcracker.
David conducted the Ballet du Capitole, including a 2009 Saison russe, La Sylphide in 2011, and Le Corsaire in 2013, which includes music by David Coleman.
David began his career as repetiteur and conductor at the London Opera Centre. It was housed in the former Troxy cinema on Commercial Road. This site has no dated programme from those years.
David was Principal Guest Conductor of London Festival Ballet, later English National Ballet. A 1977 Nutcracker programme at the Royal Festival Hall names him as assistant conductor. His biography also records conducting London Nureyev Festivals at the Coliseum. This site has no programme page for those nights.
