Sandra Jennings was born in Boston and trained there and at the School of American Ballet. George Balanchine invited her into New York City Ballet in 1974, where she danced Balanchine and Robbins roles and appeared in American television broadcasts of the company.
She later taught and coached at Pennsylvania Ballet and San Francisco Ballet, and stages Balanchine’s works for the Balanchine Trust. She first worked with the Vienna State Ballet on Divertimento No. 15 in 2024/25; Living Legacies lists her for that restaging.
