Ioanna Avraam was born in Nicosia, Cyprus, and trained at the Nadina Loizidou Ballet School in Limassol and the Heinz-Bosl-Stiftung in Munich. She joined the ballet of the Vienna State Opera and Volksoper in 2008, becoming demi-soloist in 2010, soloist in 2014 and first soloist in 2022.
In 2023 she received the Artist Award of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts. In 2024 she received a Helena Vaz da Silva European Award special recognition in Lisbon and the Nemitsas Prize in classical ballet.
